Upgrade Samsung Galaxy S2 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via CyanogenMod 10

The Samsung Galaxy S2, despite being released, is still very much given importance by the developer community as Jelly Bean custom ROMs have been rolling out for it. ,The phone’s processor is really such a waste if its OS is still the same old one. But luckily, a Jelly Bean-based CyanogenMod 10 official ROM has just recently been released for the device. CMTeamS2, the people behind the release, brought all the goodies one can get from the fastest and smoothest Android OS to date, coupled with CyanogenMod 10′s extensive customization options.
This ROM is an official release from CyanogenMod and it is in the nightly stage. Being in the nightly stage, bugs may still be present, but rest assured that this ROM will come out more stable as updates will be applied.

This guide shows you how to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S2 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via CyanogenMod 10.

Requirements

  • A Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint) SPH-D700 with ClockworkMod Recovery installed
  • Your phone’s USB cable.
  • Download the following to your computer:
  • Make sure your phone’s battery is charged up to 75% or more to avoid interruptions during the process.
  • Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.

Instructions

  1. Copy the Official CyanogenMod 10 ROM and the GApps package to your phone’s internal SD card.
  2. Switch off your phone and boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this, press and hold down the Volume Down, Camera, and Power buttons together until the phone boots into recovery.
    • NOTE: You can use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select an item or option in recovery.
  3. Make a NANDroid backup of your current ROM. To create a backup, go to Backup and Restore and select Backup.
  4. Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen. Wait for the process to finish.
  5. Select Install ZIP from SD card.
  6. Select Choose ZIP from SD card and navigate to the CM10 ROM ZIP file. Select the file and confirm the action on the next screen to start installing the ROM to your phone.
  7. After installation of the ROM is done, install the GApps package in the same manner as steps 5 and 6.
  8. Once installation of GApps is finished, select Go back and choose Reboot system now. This will reboot your phone to the newly installed CM10 ROM.
    • NOTE: First boot may take up to 5 minutes.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed the official CyanogenMod 10 ROM to your Samsung Galaxy S2. Have fun with a more stable ROM on your device.
