Download Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for Captivate I897

If you’ve hung out in the Android communities, you’ll know that there’s massive development of custom ROMs for the Samsung Captivate. Among these custom ROMs is the Salty Bean ROM based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

This custom ROM is derived from the AOKP Jelly Bean ROM, which is fast and extremely customizable. The Salty Bean ROM has a themed interface, with

less bloat, and with minor adjustments made to improve battery usage, performance, and faster boot time. We all know that Android 4.1 is already very fast by itself, but with a few tweaks, the Salty Bean ROM promises faster and better performance.

This ROM is not an official Samsung ROM. You may encounter some issues or bugs, and some Samsung ROM features may not be available or may not be working.

This guide shows you how to upgrade the Captivate I897 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via Salty Bean ROM.

Download the following files to your computer:

• Salty Bean ROM package (Salty_Bean_25_10122012.zip, 113.46 MB)
• Salty Bean addons package (contains GApps) (Salty_Bean_Addons_20120926.zip, 68.54 MB)

Instructions

1. Copy the Salty Bean ROM package and the Salty Bean Addons package to your phone’s internal SD card.
2. Turn your phone off.
3. Boot your Captivate into ClockworkMod Recovery. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons together until the screen lights up.
   • NOTE: Use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select an item or option in recovery.
4. Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen.
5. Select Wipe cache partition and confirm the action on the next screen.
6. Go back to the main menu and select Advanced. From there, select Wipe Dalvik cacheand confirm the action on the next screen. Wait for the process to finish.
7. Select Install ZIP from SD card.  Select Choose ZIP from SD card and locate theSalty_Bean_23_01102012.zip file. Confirm the installation on the next screen.
   • If the phone reboots back to recovery during the installation process, just repeat step 7 to install the ROM again.
   • If you get a Status 7 error at installation, manually install the Devil Kernel through ClockworkMod Recovery.  Then, flash the ROM as in step 7, and flash the ROM a second time.
8. Once the installation is complete, install the Salty Bean Addons package in the same manner as in step 7.
9. Go back to the main menu and select Reboot system now to restart your phone.
